Goodies from Slovenia
The mailman brought me a box of goodies from a Flickr friend in Slovenia yesterday. JumpinJack www.flickr.com/photos/jumpinjack/ and his family sent me a box full of treasures. The most unusual gift is the Kurent, which is better explained here: www.flickr.com/photos/jumpinjack/395936593. It chases away Winter- which I could have used a month or two ago, for sure- and which will come in very handy next Winter.
The Cd is by “Terrafolk”. As JumpinJack described the band, ” They play sort of traditional-folkish-alter-jazzy-chamber-music-punkish-indie-rock with a hint of reggae and country now and then”. Hahahaha… I listened to the CD, and have to say he’s got it right. I loved the music, and am an instant fan of Terrafolk.
The little green bar in the front is the most delicious chocolate with nuts. Absolutely indescribably delicious, velvety smooth (aside from the nuts of course!) Very very good- enough to make one want to move to Slovenia, for sure!
Last but certainly not least in the box of goodies, was a page of hand-drawn cartoons from JumpinJack’s children. How cute! The tales of a woman, a horse, a boy and a dog. Gregor, the boy, is the scapegoat, and target of pranks. Pretty funny. And the most amazing thing to me, is the girls wrote it out in perfect English. Very smart girls there- they put me to shame as I have never been fluent in more than one language, even though I tried in school. I’m quite impressed with their language and their drawing skills, as well as their sense of humor. ; )
Thank you JJ and family- you gave us a glimpse into life in Slovenia… I’ll cherish your gifts, always.
