Every season, it seems I find myself saying it is my favorite season. Winter is no exception.
I really love Winter. Everything is covered in white right now. At night, especially when the moon is out, the light reflects off the snow and it is just beautiful. I haven’t seen it for a while, but a few years ago I managed to see the Northern lights on a couple of occasions. Amazing. Breathtaking. Awe-inspiring! Winter is a time to watch the dogs play in the snow, go skiing at 49* North in Chewelah, watch the lake slowly (or not so slowly this year) freeze over, sit inside by a window with a cup of hot apple cider and watch the snow flakes drift to their resting spot on the ground. Winter is a time when all the bulbs in the ground are gearing up for their Spring arrival. Which.. when it happens… will be my very favorite Season.
Tomorrow the Christmas tree comes down. There should be another few inches of snow on the ground, if the weatherman is right. The plan is to roast a prime rib for New Year’s Day dinner. I didn’t make my traditional “yule log” cake for Christmas dinner, so maybe I’ll bake that tomorrow. Hot buttered rum after dinner… fudge and the last of the Christmas cookies… my last hurrah before the New Year’s “gotta get healthy and lose weight” resolutions go into effect.
Ah… life is good, and Winter is wonderful!
